Exclamation Attachments! - GOING SOON

This is the thread that goes with the announcement.

Dear dPS Members!

We have been thinking about turning off the "attachment" feature of the forum. Don't panic!

I'm not sure if you're all aware, but there is a great gallery feature on the Digital Photography School website that allows you to show your photos in your own space, post them into threads and post from the gallery and share them on other sites using the link code.

I am posting this message for 24 hours to get some feedback from you - What are your thoughts on attachments?

What we think:

- They make dPS messy!
- The images are often skipped over by people browsing.
- Inline images look a lot better

Tell me what you think - you have 24 hours!*

YOUR TIME STARTS.... NOW!

Sime and the dPS team

YAY!

i cant stand them, they are useless on a photography site because the quality is just aweful.
<--- happy me

its actually stopped me critiqueing(spelling) because i cant tell if its OOF, blurry or just the fault of the attachment.

My only question is - Where is this gallery feature? How do we access and use it?

Tks

Yours would be here - Digital Photography School - Photography Forums - Bluenoser's Albums - But you need to go into your profile and enable / show albums.

Let me know if you get stuck. I will post a "How To" Video after we gauge people's reactions.

Default Attachment browsing

Hello All,

I use Picasa just about every day of the week to send project photos to my clients and colleagues. I find it very convenient and fast. I would be very disappointed if I couldn't use Picassa to link via attachments to the few responses I do in DPS forums.

Cheers,

John W.

John,

Could you not just upload from Picasa to the dPS gallery? I see you use the gallery already?

Default Please clarify and/or provide sample

I'm a little slow today... I think I know what you're referring to, but not positive. Are you referring to when people post a link to a photo, but not the actual photo to the thread? I never click those links primarily because I don't want to be lead somewhere that is unsafe. Please clarify whether this is what you're referring to. Thanks!

I agree. I often use opera mini for browsing on the mobile which only seems to want to give me thumbnail resolution for attachments so there's no real point clicking on them.

I also don't like when pics are clickable links back to Flickr(etc.) as it just shows me the same pic resized by the same browser in the same way. Some browsers will resize images so I prefer images that are not clickable links or if they are they go straight to a JPEG rather than a web page. It makes life easier for folk with primitive browsers.

The only problem I see is the size restriction, 97.7kb isn't much. I suppose it could be worked with though, and once you get used to it, wouldn't be a big deal.
