Please please please can we get rid of attachments asap, I really can't be bothered to click them and the quality is terrible.

I'm not a fan of attachments. To be honest, I see one and I do a fly by.
Why? Pretty much for the same reasons all ready posted.

I don't like the attachments. They are too small, and detract from the flow of a discussion. Since you guys have another method of hosting and posting images inline, there is no reason to keep them around.

That's exactly what I'm worried about???

Not that I put that many up (or they're that good), but I know I won't bother stuffing around just to show some noob how to crop or do some basic, or even not so basic photoshop function. I'm already downloading their image and tweaking it for them, I don't want to spend more time uploading it to a gallery just because some people don't like the quality of the image.

Unless the replacement gallery is just as quick and easy to use, I'll put money on people getting a lot less help than they do now.

Why not poll the people that are actually helping? I know Ken posts fixes for people pretty much every day and most of them are very appreciative, it would be a shame to lose his help and everyone elses that wouldn't bother anymore.

If you don't like looking at attachments, just don't look at them! Although I know in PHPBB I get to set the quality myself, I image admin only need to change one box in the backend to make the attachments upload with better quality anyway? (I've build and administered a few forums, but all in PHPBB)

Now if (as someone mention earlier) you can build a gallery upload field into the reply page, then things will be just as easy and all good, the only real difference is that the images could then be browsed in your gallery as well

Any that's just my 2 cents, I really do hope admin consider the fact they get used for good and the impact on PP advice removing them would make.

Cheers

You can use Photobucket or some other free image host to host your help images. Just stick the link to your bookmarks bar and use the "remember me" on the host site so you don't have to log in every time. Not much harder or slower than using attachments.

I don't care if there are attachments or not. I don't use them but I see why some like them.

So - The main issues, after leaving this thread to wander on a couple of days are as follows...

QUESTIONS
A. certain people post edits of other people's images as attachments.
B. people think it's to time consuming to use the gallery feature of dPS
C. security

ANSWERS
A. Upload them to your gallery - insert them. One extra step.
B. See below - If you're uploading an attachment, it takes the same amount of time to upload it to gallery and copy and past the link takes a few seconds more.
C. It's easier to steal an attachment than it is a (semi) protected Flickr image.

Tested time to post album located image (already uploaded) -30 seconds.

- Open my profile in new tab
- Select album
- Select Image
- Copy URL
- Paste in new post

I am going to close this thread for now - I have all the feedback I need and will take a couple of days getting all the facts back from the server people about Gallery limitations v's attachments. If you have further suggestions - feel free to get in touch via email or PM to me. Thanks - Sime

For those who are interested, here's the limitations of Attachments...
