Default Canon software

Argghh. I've decided that I am ready to give Digital Photo Professional a try. I wanted to try tethering my XTi to my laptop. Well, I went to install the disc and the stupid thing has a scratch on it.
I thought. No problem, I'll just download it from Canon
No dice. They only have the upgrade available.
Why can't I download the software? It's not like it will work with anything but Canon right. I think this totally sucks in my opinion.
Any suggestions?
Dave

I would recommend rubbing regular toothpaste onto the back (readable) side of the disc. It will fill in the scratch. Just rinse lightly to remove the excess toothpaste.

I did everything imaginable. No dice. It is just really gouged. This disk ain't seeing the sun again.
It still frosts me that Canon doesn't have the software for download.
Arghhhhhh.. It's dumb.

I don't think DPP is the software that lets you shoot tethered. It's some other software. I want to say EOS Utility or something like that. Can't remember off the top of my head though.

Yes it is EOS Utility. DPP is for editing.

Toothpaste? Isn't that abrasive and opaque? I would've though filling in the scratches with car wax would be a better solution. I tend to use Maguiar's Plastic Polish.

Have you tried just calling Canon Support and telling them your situation? You can always offer to mail in the original CD in exchange for a new one....

I thought the same thing when I first tried it out. It worked, so I didn't ask questions!!!

Well, I looked at all the software and they are all updates, not the full programs. Either way it sucks.
