traditionally 50mm is considered "normal" as that approximates what the human eye sees. Anyways on an APS-C sensor it would be ~35mm.

You have me stumped too. Focal length typically refers to lenses not to a camera as far as I know. Maybe they are talking about the 1.5x factor since it is a crop body sensor?

50mm is normal length on a full frame camera so factor in your crop factor to figure out the normal length for a crop body such as the D70.

I would assume this is meant to take the crop factor into account. In your case it's about 35mm
