A couple questions from a newbie....

So, I have been a member for about two weeks now and have learned a lot already from my time spent in the forums. I was wondering about a couple of things though. How long does it take for the winners of the weekly assignments to be announced and how are the determined? Also, is there ever really an end date for submissions for assignments like the Self Portrait II that I keep seeing people add photos to for example? I noticed that the thread for that started in 2007. Just curious. I'm sure I will have more questions down the road. Thanks for the help and the info.

The weekly assignments work like this: One week before we open the assignment up for submissions, we announce the upcoming assignment (you'll see in the Seven Deadly Sins that our next assignment is "Contrast"). Then, on Wednesdays, the assignments are posted. You have one more week from the day the assignment is posted. Then about 10 days after the assignment is posted (so about 3 days after it closes for the contest) we pick winners who are then announced on the blog on Saturdays.

So for example:

2 September: Seven Deadly Sins assignment announced in the School Days thread
9 September: Seven Deadly Sins assignment thread posted
16 September: Seven Deadly Sins mini-contest closed (thread remains open, but additional submissions aren't considered for the contest)
19 September: Winners announced on the blog

The assignments never really close since you can keep doing them for your own interest / fun / whatever and you can keep adding to the threads. However, no additional winners are picked after that initial pick.
