Default Are you guilty of Chimping?

Chimping? What's that?
From the Wiki article: "Chimping is a term used in digital photography (especially when using a digital single-lens reflex camera or DSLR) to describe the habit of checking every photo on the on-camera display (LCD) immediately after capture.
Usage varies depending on context and the person using it, but common uses include:

* when a photographer’s sounds and actions of reviewing frames on-scene appear similar to the actions of an excited monkey. (Oooh! Oooh! Aaah!)

* when a photographer is completely absorbed in the act of admiring a photo or proudly showing it off to others.

* by experienced photographers to describe the actions of "wannabe" photographers.

Having several digital photographers together will result in group chimping either during or after the event they are shooting. This is similar to actual chimpanzee grooming, which is a social activity."

Yeah, we have all done it at some point. I first came across this term last year. I don't even remember what I was searching for but I just found this too amusing and the video from sportsshooter is great. Click here for vid and enjoy.

Don't forget the second video on there as well And then there's all the pictures on Flickr too...

I don't think I make any noises (does that make me a mute chimp? ) I look at my photos to make sure I didn't make a huge mistake, and sometimes I'll show them off to someone who's with me, but I'm gonna go with being not particularly guilty of it

Yes, the second video is the wrapup..
Hmm, well, not all of it is a matter of making the noises.. but checking the pictures for your settings I don't think is too bad. The vid has some great examples tho.

Used to chimp a lot more. Now I mostly check the histogram on the first shot and forget the rest. It always looks different after I download it anyway.

I do it when checking exposure. I don't tend to do it after every shot.

I actually have a reverse problem! Some of my friends will reach for the camera after they hear the shutter and go "Oh, can I see how it came out?" I'm not sure what the term for this would be... if we're shutterbugs, would people who do that be shutterfen?

(Though I think, in fairness, they're just trying to show interest in something that I'm clearly taking a great deal of enjoyment in, and which is important to me.)
