Default Any one else got expensive hobbies???

Hi all,

So with the new lens yesterday (and another only a few weeks earlier) and all the other bits and pieces this photography thing is starting to do a bit of damage to the back pocket. It got me thinking about how much I spend on my "hobbies"

I'm a mad keen fisherman and fly fish as much as possible, mainly small streams in the south of Tasmania, but also in highland lakes. When I'm not fly fishing for trout or salmon I'm throwing soft plastics around the bigger rivers and bays. Of course you need a rod for every occasion (not mention a few reels/spools for each rod) so it's certainly not cheap

Then I go four wheel driving 3-4 times a month! I tell you, you watch your money tumble out of your bank account? I'm getting about 3k worth of repairs and work done over the next few weeks. The last track I hit was a bit rough!!!

So far photography has got nothing on the cost of my other 2 , but I can see it catching up to fishing very soon, dunno about four wheeling though?

Anyone else got expensive hobbies?

I'm into remote controlled cars especially nitro methane powered ones. I've dumped easily over $1,500 into my Revo with upgrade parts, stronger engine, pipes, bodies tires all sorts of things. I haven't touched the thing in 2 years because every time I take it out I love to bash it. Which ends up costing me money to repair. Usually a few bucks here and there but it adds up over time. I have some on-road cars, buggies, monster trucks. Lots of tools to support all these RC parts and tons of spare parts.

I'm debating if I should start selling these off since I don't have much time to play with them anymore. I'm also into video games that runs me about 60 - 120 a month depending on what games are coming out. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 comes out soon so that should hold me over for most of the winter.

no, just photography for me. I"m glad to know tho that others are spending money on more than their photographic hobby. I was thinking today that maybe I should stop spending money on taking pictures and get a P&S. It would be cheaper, but oh not as much fun.

Hey RC is awesome!!! I way want to get into RC drifting and RC rock climbing, but know it's just another one of those things that will end up costing WAY too much!

To be honest I'd love to get a proper drift car and do if for real, but She Who Must Be Obeyed promised me a divorce the day I come home with any sort of track car

Anyone interested check out some RC drifting on youtube YouTube - AIproject RC Drifting 05

Show Cars? What sort Foques? I Loooove cars of all sorts I built a 1/2 scale hot rod about 15 years back in an engineering class They were awesome little things running 6HP Briggs and Stratton pump engines.

Cheers

Very Cool!

I had an 05 Subaru Legacy (Liberty here in Oz) but got rid of it, I got way too many speeding fines! Haven't had a single ticket since getting the truck!

Endless money pit, 1950 Harley-Davidson. Luckily, I bought it 30 years ago when you could still by a Harley fairly cheap (rode it home for $1200.00 US). I also worked for a few different bike shops, so I got my parts for cost.
