Default Another member of the Nifty Fifty club!

I went into my local store this morning with my heart set of a Nikkor 35mm f/1.8, I tried it on for size and was quite impressed. I noticed the fifty sitting all lonely on the shelf so thought I'd give that a look at before taking off with the 35mm.

Didn't happen, the 50mm was sooooo much smother and had something that the 35mm just didn't. I've had a bit of a play since and I'm loving it, I don't think it'll be coming of the camera for a while yet...

Anyway off to take more shots of nothing

Cheers

Yep, you got it in one, it was the 35mm 1.8G.

I've given up auto focus for the fifty, I hope I don't come to regret that. It's no problem with posed shots, but I've spent half the day running around trying to get pics of 2 year olds and not many ended up in focus I expect with time I'll get better though.

aaah i see.. but you can turn your frown upside down because you now have a great reason to buy a D90 or D300

wide open apertures are very hard, so autofocus is nice to have... but i if my matsh is correct you saved 50% by getting the 50mm... and chances are it will last longer.

you'll get usedto it..
...the little green light still lights up right?? i'd expect it to.
that should make it a bit easier..

even so... D90 or D300

That is the plan, just don't tell my wife yet, she already thinks I spend too much

And yep, the little green light is there, but it's fairly hard to notice while your framing the shot, I'm trying my damnedest to not use it when possible to rely on my eye, but it really does help.

Yeah, saved 50% getting the 50

Another thing, the 35mm doesn't have a regular focus ring - that kinda freaked me out. I read you can lock it at infinity?
