I have been in the search for a fish eye lens that will mount onto a Sony (A200) and have been doing some extensive research all over the internet, one book and many magazines. I have seen a lot about lenses and wonder why people use Fixed Focal Length Lenses. (say that a few times fast
.What are Prime lenses good for, are there any special features about them? different aperture settings or stuff like that? Thanks in advanced. (I'm on a mac, so all the spelling I would guess is from the US. I however am a Free Canadian

Prime lenses usually have a larger maximum aperture (smaller f-number) than zoom lenses. Fast prime lenses maximum aperture can be f/0.95 to f/2.

Also fixed focal length lenses are generally cheaper since they usually don't require as many lens elements and are easier to engineer. They are lighter/smaller for the same reasons. Also they provide higher image quality, in general, when compared to zooms since they are specifically designed for only one focal length the engineers do not have to make any optical compromises when designing the lens. The high end zooms however will perform just as good as, if not better than, fixed focal length lenses. Of course you are going to pay through the nose for them.

How about this one.................it's out of stock at the moment. You might want to check and see how good of a lens it is as well. Just because its a prime, doesn't mean it is a good prime.
