Default Return!

Well I got back today from 2 weeks in Alaska tagging along on a cruise with my mother. Have about 800 digital shots and 4 rolls of film to get through: doing digital first!

I had a chance to pretty thoroughly test out my new 10-24 and im quite satisfied with it. Its not the 14-24, not close, but it's still very nice. The angle of view and perspective are amazing and still make me giggle like a child.

I also had a chance to test out my 70-300 at full range in less-than-optimal conditions and have to say that so far im pretty happy. Wildlife photography from several hundred yards is NOT easy, especially when one is sitting in a slightly modified school bus with 50 other people with nothing by an older body and a slow telephoto. Results were still quite good, however. I also have a panorama in the works made at 70mm, so that should be fun.

I hope everyone here has been well. Will post pictures soon.

2 weeks in Alaska and only 800 digital shots? I spent 8 days in California and shot over 1200.

Yeah, yeah, I know quality over quantity.

When you are shooting landscapes you really don't need to press the shutter that much. Its all in the preparation. Over two weeks, even shooting HDR or panormaic shots you don't need that many, perhaps 10 shots per composition but that would be a lot. It would have to be a very spectacular tip to visit over 80 different lanscape compositons over 2 weeks.

Wildlife? Well thats all about the waiting!

The landscapes are actually not bad: about 5 for most of the more important locales. Wildlife wasnt so much about waiting as it was about getting some shots before we moved out of the area. They're certainly not the best, but they're better than what most people on the bus were getting with their 3x zoom P&S cameras.

Don't you hate it when you go to such a spectacular place as Alaska and you don't have time to prepare everything, but as you say, you just try to get some shots before the group moves on.. But then again, if we had all the time we need, we could as well sell our equipment to pay for all those nights and days.
