Default Introduction & First Question
Greetings to all.My name is Alan & I'm pretty much a photo newbie.I am retired U.S.Army Master Sergeant & just by chance have gotten into photography.A small sideline business I have is buying(by auction)storage lockers that have been defaulted on & abandoned,then selling whatever I can on Ebay or where ever.A few weeks ago I purchased a storage unit at auction & one of it's contents was an absolutely mint condition,in original box,with all original manuals,Nikon Coolpix 8800 camera.I've been using it in "Green"mode the last few weeks & really like it a lot.It really handles well & seems easy enough to use in the auto modes.My question is this:How do I learn to really use this thing?I've looked at an online Digital Photo course & it looks like that may be the way to go but I'm wondering if I have any other options.Unfortunently there's only 1 decent camera store where I live & they don't have any courses until the middle of Sept.Any decent books for beginners?I appreciate any replies,now I'm off to check out this community.Thanks again.

these tips for beginners should get you on the right path
pay particular attention to the "exposure triangle"

Ok I guess if I had done a little searching BEFORE posting my question above I would have saved myself a little embarassment(sp?).I found the Tips & Tutorials section & will start there.
