Default tripod on carry on luggage

I did a quick search for whether or not you can take a tripod/monopod on your carryon luggage and I got mixed results. It is definetly not on the list of TSA no nos.
Any experience with this???

Default tripod on carry on luggage

I took my tripod from Des Moines to Phoenix last Christmas. Carried my camera backpack and tripod right on without any issues. Return was just as easy.

I flew to Seattle in June and didn't take my tripod. I took my monopod and put it in my checked baggage. For two reasons, one it is easy to carry around when you are walking around and two if you carried it on the plane as a carry on item could be perceived as being used as a weapon, in my opinion anyway.

The wife and I flew just this past weekend from Vegas to San Fransisco and I had my tripod in my carry-on bag. Never raised an issue either leaving or returning.

why not just call and ask?? that would be the best way to find the answer to your question.

I would think it wouldn't be a problem. I've seen people with them and all kinds of other things with their carry on luggage.

We flew to Vegas in April and I had mine tucked away in a carry on. Not a word was said. But they did laugh at my socks that didnt match on my feet

You are so right with that one. A couple of years ago I was flying with a friend who checked her harp through on our trip to Ireland. She was allowed to check it because it fit through the xray machine. I also had no problems taking my CPAP onboard in addition to my one carry-on (it is medical equipment).

Coming back was totally different. Security at Dublin would not let her carry her harp on (I guess they were afraid she would harp for a maurading chieftan clothed in woad) and gave me a hard time about my CPAP.

Flying from Vegas to Seattle earlier this year my check in bag was 2 pounds overweight. I pulled my tripod (in its bag) and carried it on. Nobody said anything. I put it in the overhead next to my camera bag.
