Default Perseids

Any other stargazers out there? The perseid meteor shower peaks tomorrow night, anybody making an effort to go somewhere dark to watch it?

Yeah, I'll be out there in the garden watching it.

Nice and dark here and no cloud cover forecast this evening so hopefully get a good show.

Tomorrow is the BIG night though.

Tonight is the best night for it here. I'm gonna give it a shot. I'll be dead at work tomorrow, but oh well.

I live in the city centre so I won't see anything from home tonight, but tomorrow I'm making the hour's drive to the dark site my astro group uses to watch. Can't wait, hopefully the weather will play ball for a change.

Ya, weather is my main concern. Thankfully, it is supposed to be mostly clear tonight, but who knows if it will be.

It is supposed to be tonight. from midnight to 5am from what I hear anyways. I might watch for a little bit but I am not going to try to go out and take pictures of it this year. Last year I did that and got eaten alive by mosquitos.

A question about the Perseids and photographing them, what shutter speeds do you usually use? I've never tried photographing them, so I was just wondering.

Thanks

Personally I would treat them like I treat my lightning shots. Go out with a sturdy tripod, aim the camera at the sky with a bulb setting, and watch the sky with a remote in hand.

Well, I just spent about an hour and a half out in the yard. I saw several, shot 98, 30 second exposures, got bit buy about 20 mosquitos and got no comets in frame. Maybe I'll try again tommorrow night.

By the way, I set the camera on manual, shutter to continuose, shutter speed to 30 seconds and locked the remote on.

I wanted to try and get some photos but decided not to since my friend and I had a large cooler of beer between our chairs. Saw plenty of good one's though!
