Default card-PC transfer speed

hey all.

just wondering what speed people are getting around the world when transfering data from a SD card to a PC. or any card really. im getting a pissy 3mb/s from my SD card reader. my $10 2gb nerd stick get to like 10mb/s.

is there any card hi-speed card reader out there so i can transfer data at the 20mb/s speed that my SanDisc SDHC Extreme III should be able to handle?

thanks, transfering 8GB at 3mb/s isn't exactly fun.

I use SanDisk Extreme 2.0 USB Reader. Not sure about SDHC speed but CF is 30 MB/s.

SanDisk features:

"The SanDisk Extreme® III USB 2.0 Reader is the perfect accessory for SanDisk Extreme® III CompactFlash cards. When coupled with a SanDisk Extreme® III CompactFlash card, it helps you transfer large files faster through your computer's USB port, at a speed of 30MB/s. It also features the reliability and professional-level services that have become synonymous with the SanDisk Extreme® product family."

Is your device USB 1.1 or USB 2.0? This makes a HUGE difference in speed.

I have a USB 1.1 reader made by ACOM Data (generic type) and I have a USB 2.0 reader made by Targus and Targus reader is much faster. I haven't measured the speed, but transferring shots into Lightroom is faster with the Targus reader.

i have both 1.1 and 2.0. but i NEVER use the single 1.1 port.

my USB stick hits 9mb/s in the 2.0, and the card reader gets to 3.5mb/s no matter what card, i tried a class 2,4 and 6 SD card. when i use the 1.1 both my USB and card reader max at 900kb/s
