Hello there!
Maybe this was posted here before and I did try looking for something and had no luck...I remeber there was an article about it as well a while back... Anyway, I am planning a trip to Carribean (Dominican Republic) and the biggest question I am asking myself is should I bring by DSLR or my point and shoot?? I have looked at he cons and pros and at the end I really want to bring my DSLR but how do I protect my camera from sea water, sand, and theft?? I have a Nikon D60 and I plan on bringing only one lens, and battery charger to this trip, I really want to travel light, I have UV filter on my lens so wind blowing on the beach and any other things that could damage the front of the lens are not a factor. But if I bring my camera to the beach how do I go to the ocean to swim and leave my camera in my bag?? I am just afraid that I will spend a week being worried about my camera being stolen or damaged and not have any fun...Is there some sort of insurance in Canada that I could but that would cover the theft part of it?? I could take both of my cameras and keep the DSRL in the room safe on some occasions but how safe are room safes??? Any suggestions will help!!!! Thank you soooooo much!

Consider basic safety tips;
1) Never ever change the lens on your DSLR when you're in the vicinity of beach. 2) Keep your camera under cool sheltered place & avoid shooting under extreme hot conditions on beach. 3) Keep your cleaning kit in your bag so that you can clean the camera. Though remember not to di it on beach offcourse ![]() 4) Since you mentioned you want to swim, the best is to bring your prosumer & keep it locked away somewhere safely. Remember the good old technique of disguise. Get a less attractive bag & secure it with a small padlock. Enough to keep thiefs at bay. Happy journey friend. Do enjoy the nature while you enjoy photography

I change my lenses on the beach all the time. it is not that big a deal as long as you know how to do it correctly. Just make sure that there is no wind blowing around to get sand/ salt water spray into your camera body. If needed get a clean towel to throw over your head and camera so it will block out all the wind/sand/sea water while you are changing the lens.

travel insurance will cover theft.. and i'm sure you've bought some anyway.
unse several memory cards. 1. in case of failure, 2. incase of theft.. you will only loose some of your pics. keep them in different places as for the damage.. a camera bag will stop the bumps,

Great tips gang!
I know if I don't bring my D60 to this trip I will regret it forever! I did not consider travel insurance becuase I have medical insurance with work and cancellation doesn't cover much...not sure what to do about this...I will have to look into it ![]() LOL
