Default Am I being paranoid?

I bought my first D-SLR last weekend (Canon 1000D) and used in on a day out on Sunday with no problems. I also used it during the week, but only a few shots at a time. I bought a couple of Canon compatible generic batteries and used one of these today when out. With no warning, the camera shut down and could not be turned back on so I replaced it with the original Canon battery thinking that the first charge on a new battery may not hold for as long as I would expect. After about 10 minutes, the camera did the same. Messed about with it for a while and found that taking the battery out and reinserting fired the camera back up again.

So, I did get a replacement camera from the store I bought it from but am freaking out that it may be because I used the generic battery rather than that this was probably a problem with the camera itself.

Kind of trying to get a feel for your opinions of this and whether it is more likely to be the camera than the battery? Because I have two non-Canon ones I am scared to use now!!

(I am a little paranoid having never bothered about this kind of stuff before - heck, with a P&S you ...at least 'I'....drop it, use whatever I want mess around and generally abuse it and it takes everything! Now, I get told off for 'talking over the lens' when I change it!)

Smile canon batteries

Hi, I recently bought a non canon battery for my EOS 400, and must say I have had no probs with it whatsoever. If anything I think it outperforms the canon for longevity!!! Maybe take the camera back to the dealer or failing that get it checked out by canon. Wouldn't mentiom that you used a non canon battery in it as they always recommend that you don't and they may use this as an excuse for the fault. I've also had several friends who have used non canon batteries and again no problems reported. Defo sounds like a camera fault but other forum users may have other experiences. Good luck! David W
