Hi All, I'm new to the forum and hoping someone can help with my problem!??
I recently went on holiday to Japan and Australia and took hundreds of shots in RAW. This is the first time I have tried this and I have read that it can have many advantages. However,on returning home I uploaded the shots to my computer using canon's DPP software. I was very dissapointed to find that many of the images are very grainy. Does anyone know why this may have occurred? The images are fine in the 'zoombrowser' files, but I can't do any post production of these. Any tips on how to sort this problem will be greatly appreciated! Thanks, David W. PS the images have the effect of being grainy and 'oversharpened'.

I doubt that the images are over sharpened... Most likely undersharpened. When you shoot in raw there is no in camera processing of the image so what you have is a raw image like it says. You need to get a program that allows you to process the raw image before you will have a completed photo. So there are many many programs out there that will work. I like to use adobe light room and adobe photoshop for my raw workflow but you can also use Gimp and Ufraw (I think that is the name) for a free alternative. With your DPP software I believe that you can convert to a DNG and then any photo processing software will allow you to open the file and retouch.
Hope that helps. and welcome to DPS.

Are you converting to JPEG files? If so, then make sure that you have the meter on DPP set to the highest quality.
