Default Airline Travel w/ Camera Gear

Starting to plan our annual fall trip which will include the need for air travel- something we haven't done in a long time. Sooo , I am hoping that some of you reading this can offer some suggestions on how to minimize the hassle with airport security and still take what we need; cameras, lens, accessories and tripods for 10 days of shooting. Appreciate the inputs

grip gear like tripods will need to be checked in but all camera/lenses should be hand carried if at all possible. If you are taking lights I would try to hand carry that as well. It realyl just depends on what you are bringing and how many people are going with you.

I've never had a problem just putting all my camera stuff into a bag as carry on and having it go through the x-ray scanner.

I am usually cool with it as well unless it is film. Also you are not allowed to carry on tripods and light stands and other grip gear since it could be used as a weapon. I mean really you can probably do just as much damage to someone with a tripod as you could with a bat.

So like I said it really depends on what gear you plan on bringing with you and what airline and how many people are going etc.

I carry lightstands and tripods in carry on all the time. Where it depends is where you are going. If you are traveling international it can be an issue, but domestic US travel is not a problem. A great sight for info on traveling with your gear is FyingWithFish

Wasn't aware you couldn't bring a tripod I've always left that with my clothes. I could walk up to someone and rip their eye ball out of their head. My hands are weapons I think everyones hands need to be locked with handcuffs and Chinese finger traps for ultimate safety.

Yeah I know how stupid airline restrictions are. I think it is really silly. I used to be a chemist. There are all sorts of fun (highly explosive) things you can do with 1 oz bottles of liquids. But hey whatever makes the mass public sleep better at night right?

I'd sleep better if they gave everyone parachutes in case of an imminent crash. I would rather take my changes jumping out of a plane then crashing into the ground at 600MPH.

After all D.B. Cooper supposedly did it as so did another guy. Can't remember the other guys name but he actually did safely land but was later caught because he was bragging about it at a bar.
