Profesionally or a the official photographer? Nope - You need a back up camera and flash as well. Probablly something a bit longer as well, Maybe a 70-200 f2.8

As a guest taking snapshots, you'll be fine.

Suitable? That's a very vague question, and here's my vague answer.

What specific images are you contracted to get?
What specific images do you want to capture?
What level of freedom do you have to get those images? (are you allowed move around enough)
What is your ability to use that freedom to get those pictures? (is there time enough to move)
What is the lighting like? (Adequately lit for f/2.8 no flash?)

If the lens (and less importantly the camera body) fit those requirements, then it's suitable....A backup system could certainly be beneficial.

LMFAO

Yeah so you really need to have a backup camera and flash and a short telephoto like the 70-200 f2.8. Backup camera incase something happens to the main and can allow you to quickly switch lenses to capture something that may be too far away for the 24-70.

I usually shoot events with a black rapid double rig harness. It allows me to have one camera on my right hip and on on my left I can change cameras in about 1 second. One camera will have the 24-70 the other 70-200. This will ensure that I dont get caught with my pants down and miss a shot cause I am changing lenses. I also usually keep a third body in the bag in cause something happens to one of the two I am using. This is not completely necessary but it is nice to have anyways.

I would consider 2 bodies with 2 different lenses and two flashes the bare minimum for good wedding coverage.

My earlier post was genuine advice. It is the same thing I would tell anyone thinking about shooting a wedding as the primary shooter.
