Question Wedding photography etiquette

In late August I'll be attending my aunt's wedding and I'd love to take some pictures of the ceremony. My friend is lending me his 70-300mm telephoto lens which should take some decent shots from where I'll be sitting. However, it takes place inside a church and I'm worried that the sound of my shutter might annoy the people sitting near me. I haven't been to a wedding since I was 2 so I don't know what to expect from the ceremony or if I'm even allowed to take pictures. If I am, should I even attempt to do so? I don't want to be bothersome but I would love to get some pictures.

FWIW, I never heard a single shutter click during my recent wedding, even from the paid pro shooting my wedding.

You could always cough or sneeze as you press the shutter release?

I just did one yesterday.

If you're there to shoot, then that's your job. There's nothing you can do about shutter noise; people will have to deal with it.
