My advise is go to your doctor, you may need something as a simple relaxer and they will give you the proper exercises for your body. If something is really damaged excersising in pain will make it worse. Trust me. I have been in constant pain for three years now...

Yeah, don't ignore back pain, even if it's occasional. I spent all winter recovering from a trap injury which resulted from being dumb on my bike.

You may also want to look into how you hold the camera, both when you're using it, and when it's not in use. If you're like me and carry it around your neck a lot, I prefer to sling it back around behind one of my hips. When using it, elbows close to the body (for stability and support) also help save your muscles.

Aside from all the free (worth what you paid for it) medical advice, I'd say try a monopod and or an R-strap from Black Rapid.

This is not back pain like spinal stuff, its just muscles that get tight. I must admit I am intrigued at how something in the leg can lead to tightness in a muscle in the back. Would like to hear more about that.

All of your major muscle groups can affect each other. Walking wrong (due to a leg injury, say) can lead to bad posture, and bam -- back pain! Part of the way that I fixed up my trap injury was by doing a great deal of shoulder and abdominal exercises. Muscle problems are not to be ignored -- they can mess you up pretty severely.

I do use a padded strap, but the Black Rapid is definitely on my short list of things to acquire in the near future...

LOL. Thats the first thing that came to my mind too. We take our bodies for granted. Watching parents enduring aging pains, I've become very conscious of my physical envelop. Day in and day out I'm mindful of what it is capable of doing today and I treat it with respect, for I know I'll be leaning over very soon.
