Default making my first sale.

a friend of mine wants to have some of the pics that I took of her grand-daughter. I am mean though and said that I would have to charge for them. Only mom and dad of the baby get some for free. It is on my site but if she wants the proper prints she has to pay for it.

she told me that was TOTALLY fine. She is buying 7 4x6's off me at $5 each. Then one 5x7 at $10 and I am going to "throw in" an 8x10 for free. She doesn't know about the 8x10 though. hehehe.

sure it is not much and I am not great but this is a start. She told me the prices were low but I said I have to start off somewhere and better to start lower then start too high. I am also going to do up a portfolio soon and take some shots around to local businesses and see if they would be interested in putting up a shot or two. But baby steps. This is one step for me in the right direction. The hard part is figuring out how to size them so they print properly. I think I am going to get them printed at lens and shutter.

Getting close to being able to get a backdrop stand that is portable and a couple backdrops. That is what I want to do though.

anyway....I may be crazy but I am trying!

Hey congrats.

Check out Amvona.com for good deals on some of the backgrounds and stands you are looking at. I've used them and been happy many times.

Sounds like you're off to a good start, but you have one thing backwards:

better to start lower then start too high . . .
You should charge based on what your prints are worth, not on how much experience you do or don't have. It is much harder to raise prices than lower them once people get to know you as "cheap."
