Maybe it's just me, but I think if I had a possibly award winning photo, I wouldn't be giving it away to everybody that wanted to download it. But thats just my opinion.

I kinda have this philosophy: I can't make money off of my photos now and I want as many people as possible to be able to benefit from my photos so until I go pro (if I choose that over being a computer programmer) I plan on putting all my (non-portrait) photos under a Creative Commons Attribution license. And even if I go pro I'll still put them under a CC Attribution Non-Commercial license.

Not to be a big stick in the mud, but once upon a time, when photographer used to shoot only film, the price of equipment, film and developing kept alot of people out of the business. Now that anyone with a digital camera, a computer and photoshop can create very nice photos, a whole lot more people are into it. Now, if all those people want to give thier photos away free or nearly free, to get thier name "out there", when you decide to go pro, what do you think they are going to want to pay? But, thats just my opinion.

You might want to take a look at the contest rules as well. Many contests have requirements that the photo not be published anywhere else. I've not looked at the particular contest you entered, so that may or may not be the case.

You're 15, you probably don't care, but giving away your work is bad news.

Camera - $500+ (the kid has an A200)
Lenses of various sizes - $500-$10,000
Computer - $300-$2,000
photoshop - $600
Time and effort - ???

Yea, completely worth it to give away photos. But, hey, it's mommy and daddy's money right now, so there's no sense of ownership or the value of money.

No need to be so condescending... If Matt wants to use CC, why's that any issue of yours?... How do you know he didn't work for his camera?...

Matt - Well done... Do watch out for rights grabbing competitions (This one that you've entered isn't) but some can be... Yours also doesn't limit you distributing the image, either..
