Question To start 365 days project or not?

Hello, I'm new on the forums, having lurked for a while, but I've only just registered today.

I've loved photography for a while, and last January, I finally saved up enough for my own Canon 450D and 50mm lens, and have been improving since then (after slowly discovering 'what this button does.. and that one, and that one')

I've got an account on Flickr, and have uploaded photos, but I was wondering... How much commitment would a 365 day project take? I've been interested in maybe starting one for a while. I'd do it to improve my photography, and to give myself a challenge. However, if I start something, I'd want to go with it to the finish, and I'm a perfectionist by nature, I'd hate the idea of quitting. But next year I've also got school, and plenty of exams to worry about, and I don't want it affecting that. At the moment I don't use my camera every day, nor am I a person to take it with me wherever I go.

So how much is it in terms of Commitment? Can you easily fit it in around everything else?

Thanks

That is difficult task you are thinking of setting yourself. Not something I'd commit myself to but I say 'go for it' if you are sure you can do it.

How will you do it, plan ahead or randomly take a picture each day?

I'd be interested in following your results should you decide to take this task on.

Depends on how you'll be committed to such a lengthly project. Why don't you start with a 30 or 60 day one just to test the waters?

How much commitment? Well, "only" 365 commitments!!!!!!!! Personally, I got bored REAL quick. This came up, that came, oh I have to be here.....the list goes on. Life will get in the way, trust me!! I'm not saying that it's not possible, it just does not fit into my lifestyle. I did not finish, but honestly I would not even start it again.

You could also try a 52 week project like the one here.

I was just going to suggest that. all you have to do is a picture a week. Seems like it's less of a commitment. It's what I'm planning to do soon enough.

I am starting the 365 day project on my Birthday in August. I figure, yes it is a commitment but like you said, it is a way to help you improve & it is only 1 photo a day - think of it as your fun/relaxation for the day.

i'm doing the fiftytwo project.. its really good because i'm pretty busy so it suits me fine to set some time aside once a week.
once a day is impossible for me

i'd suggest the 52 anyday

It is a bit of a commitment.

Like others have said you could do a 52 (one a week) or how about a 7 day project (a shot everyday for a week) and see how you like it before tackling a 365 or 52.

I did a 365 self portrait group for a year and I am happy I did it but I am also happy that it is over.
