I love that I have set up a photo blog. I put what I feel are my most interesting images there and I talk a bit about them too. I used wordpress because it had a template that was especially for photos. I wish they had more options (besides the ones that developers make and you somehow load yourself), but for now, that one will do. Mine is in my signature too.

I am really enjoying Wordpress run on my own webhost (linked in my sig). Lot's fun tools to play with and very customizable. Blogger is fantastic too as well as Typepad.

I, like Travis, have configured wordpress on my own domain but i am using the free Arras theme. Wordpress is so versatile and has so many cool widgets and plugins etc that you can install at the click of a button, id certainly reccommend it.

A photoblog is a great idea for keeping track of your work! I use blogspot for that same purpose - not sure if it's the best service though. Only thing I don't like is that the images are very small when uploaded.
Natalie Norton did an write-up on DPS called "How to Find the Blog Service that’s Right for Your Photoblog" - may be worth checking out before you choose a service. Here's the link or you can search for the title on DPS How to Find the Blog Service that’s Right for Your Photoblog |

Once you do it with wordpress you dont look back. Bit of a learning curve but the control you get is well worth it. Try elegantthemes.com if you want to get a nice look 'n' feel for your photo blog. They have some very nice themes.
Just signed up with hostgator -they're offering 20% discount and they include 1-click installs of wordpress which make it very easy to get started. Think the hostgator.com offer end on 1st august use coupon code: BEACH |

Blogspot is a good blogging platform, but it's not really that great for photo blogs unless you tamper with the HTML a bit. I have my blog's template wider than the standard, and I also edit the HTML for each photo I upload so it is a bigger size.
From what I have observed, Wordpress looks more friendly to it though. Just my $.02. |

I have used both Blogger and Wordpress.com (which is not the same as wordpress.org, that requires your own host and is, I imagine, more customizable). Both are "free" however wordpress.com puts a cap on how much space is devoted to images (3 gigs) and you have to pay for an upgrade if you need more. For a photo-specific blog, this may start costing you money before you're ready. Blogger has no such restrictions, however it's a much more basic platform that requires at least rudimentary knowledge of HTML to seriously customize. The good news is that there are LOTS of free web resources about blogger to help you do that.
If you're new to blogging, I say go with the 100% free one first. Blogger lets you download your own content for free, so if you decide to move it to bigger and beter things later, you can. |
