Photography Website: Gallery or Blog?

So I'm trying to decide which kind of format i want to use for my Photography site.

I've seen some that are your typical gallery-style websites, with links for each type of photography you do and samples of your work, and then just pricing and contact information.

Then I've seen much more informal blog-style formats, where each photoshoot is posted as a post, in a category. It's less "formal" but encourages people to follow & check your site often, to see if there is anything new. And to see all of a certain category, you can always select the blog category and scroll through the posts.

So.... which do you think is best? What do you use? And why?

Both - If you are a pro offering a service I think you need to have a static site to advertise your business. It needs a portfolio, some contact information and info about the services you provide. For high end services I would't put prices on the site but instead ask people to contact you, but that may differ dependent on what market you are in.

A blog can add a personal touch. I wouldn't have it as the main landing page but a link from your static site. You can use it to blog about photoshoots, special offers, give a little insight into what makes you tick and what gives you photography ideas. I've even seen some wedding photographers give wedding planning tips (afterall they have lots of wedding experience!). You do need to keep it updated though which is a big commitment on your time.
