Default Colour – Safari vs Firefox (mac)

I was wondering if someone might be able to help me...

As most of you will have a Flickr account, you might be as horrified as I was to see that Safari users and Firefox users see VASTLY different results of the same imagery. I put them up side by side on my screen last night and I nearly fell off my chair! Firefox users see washed out, badly white balanced images whereas the Safari users see my imagery as I had intended it to be.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?? Has anybody else noticed this? Makes me wonder what my pics look like on a PC too for IE users.

HELP!

Safari is the only browser to read the colour profiles as they are meant to be read....

Cheers Sime... Interesting read. The thing is, I export for Flickr using sRGB colourspace as I figured Adobe RGB would be too much for it even though Abobe RGB is supposedly superior for range. I think I will have to continue viewing in Safari. I just cant look at my shots in Firefox. It's depressing! And even more depressing to think that this is what people are seeing of my shots?!

Cheers for the confirmation too Leis

I don't really see much difference... But maybe that's because I'm running the Windows version of Safari on an XP machine!

How many millions of monitors are there around the world? How many have been calibrated to a consistent standard? If you put your pictures on the web, you have to accept that others will see them in different colours - even if they have a calibrated monitor, what about the other distractions (lighting, colours and clutter in the surrounding environment) that will affect perception?

I have somewhat the opposite problem. I process my photos in Windows and when I viewed them on a Mac using Safari, they looked horrible. At least some of them did. I haven't checked out Firefox on Mac yet though but Firefox on Windows is fine. It might be the gamma problem but I don't think so since some colors look really different.

I'm very glad you brought this up. I'm having a heck of a time with my shots on threesixtyfive (and all the personal ones you guys don't see) not showing up the way that I see them when I work on them. Things seem... off. Worse yet, I've heard from other people that something is not quite right when they view them on their browsers. Just assumed it was mmonitor calibration, though now I'm not sure. I have Firefox 2 so I guess I'll be on the lookout for version 3.

Cheers for the post, I didn't know about this. Though to be honest I work to making things look good in FF anyway...Don't know if this is a good or bad thing

Yeah, I hear what you are saying Wulf, but I am talking about viewing the same image on the same monitor at the same time in the same light, just having both browsers open and seeing vastly different results.
