Lightbulb photography wiki?

i had a thought while browsing the forums, is there a photography wiki? and if not why don't we/DPS start one? it would allow the content to be sorted and viewed easily and any forum member could add information.

it could cover hardware and software so it could have sections on how to use your camera and sections explaining RAW and other file formats

the end result would be a online store of information related to anything to do with photography and my feeling is it would be many peoples first stop for information especially if it has high quality content that DPS and its forums have

it could be a good community project that would benefit not only forum members but DPS readers and people new to photography.

any thoughts/ideas ?

The idea is good. It is always useful to have all of the information in one place and easy to find.

One thing to take into consideration: The DPS site actually already does a lot of it... if you check the main page you can see that the information is split into:
  • Photography Tips & Tutorials
  • Cameras & Equipment
  • Post Production

There's loads of information already there and creating a Wiki might mean a duplication of efforts, time and resources.

DPS has lots and lots of useful information which could be linked to the wiki pages so there shouldnt be to much more work to do as you would just need to link it

it would also be a better way of presenting the DPS information as it will be split into sections, another way of looking at it would be to think of it as a sort of site map for the DPS content?

once running forum members can point questions to pages of the wiki for example questions about RAW file format could be directed to the RAW wiki page.

sorry for double post but didnt want to make large sections of text to read.

after seeing this thread http://digital-photography-school.co...strict-uk.html about the lake district i had a thought, the wiki could also include a section for locations and example photos so that when we go on holiday we can look and see who else has been and what photos they took while they where there.

A Wiki is a great idea in principle!

The question is finding somewhere to host and run it. Our server (if we even have one) seems to be pretty hammered as it is. Handling a wiki that could potentially see a lot of traffic from people looking to learn new stuff might push it into oblivion...
