Default Photographer Stories : Has anyone tried to steal your gear?

I was talking about this with someone not too long ago and thought it would be interesting to hear from others...stories I heard ranged from a man trying to steal a carry-on after boarding (don't think he thought about his escape plan...) to a knife fight.

So, what's your story if you have one?

Absolutely.... I'm a Viet Nam Vet - Special Forces (LRRP) and I had 2 younger dudes get about $400 in P&S equip from me at knifepoint... 2 punks and a knife dznt' sound like much, but - this guy knew what he was doing, and didn't leave me any opening at all !! I'm 62, and this was about 2 yrs ago ..... I now carry about a grand of equip with me when I go out, and I'll guarantee it wont' happen again. Talk to my Glock.

BTW, dont' judge me unless you've had this happen to you .. It's not a matter of someone getting my equipment that's fully insured, but it was an act of violence that I won't put up with again..

So, never bring a knife to a gun fight? I don't blame you in the least for going to the extreme. I had my house broken into when I was away for the evening and when I came back the next day to find a bunch of my stuff gone I felt totally violated. Unfortunately, here in Canada, the authorities frown on the common man possessing handguns.

As long as it's registered, it's fine. Just dont be firing it off inside city limits

Never any problems yet, but when I'm shooting alone at 2:00am, I either have a .380 in my pocket or a 45 on my belt.

Yeah their both point and shoots.

We can. It's as simple as filling out pretty much the same paper work as getting a carry permit, and sending it off to the BATF with $200. We can even get special filters to suppress the shutter noise.
