Default Help Help Help!

My daughter uses my old Nikon D40. As she takes photos, when she looks at them in the camera, it seems that the lighter parts of the picture (over-exposed?) parts flash. We cannot figure out how to shut off this feature. This used to be my camera and it never happened to me. We are not very technical, but we have looked through the book and can't seem to find the answer. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks

That can be quite annoying. I dont have a Nikon so not sure where that setting would be. In mine, its somwhere in your settings folder, probbaly under highlights and shadows.
Sorry that wasnt more help. I dont have my camera with me or i would have found exactly where its at.
Do you have a manual for your camera?

If it is like a D80, when viewing your picture on the LCD, press the down arrow on the multipad. This will toggle through viewing the picture, histgram, settings, and blown highlights. You are seeing blown highlights.

The "blinkies" show you what parts of the image are within a certain % of pure white (I think it's 5pts on the RGB scale, so (250,250,250)).

I have to agree with Kencaleno, I find it helpful, it shows me graphically where I have blown highlights. With my Canon this only works if my view is set to also show the histogram.

Yes, you really should retain the blinkies.

I'm with Ken, I find it helpful and I actually have it set that way on purpose on my Canon.
