Default i knew things were going too well

After all the good news ive had over the past week, ive just been told im one of three people facing redundancy.... if i get to keep my job my shifts are being cut to the tune of a £300 loss in wages per month. taking me well under my bill and outgoing amounts.

Time to check the papers and invest in a red marker pen i fear!

Bummer - sorry to hear that matey.. Having been in a similar position, I know all too well how it feels.

Everything happens for a reason though - with a bit of luck you'll get more photography work which will help to buffer that salary shortfall.

I'm no UK Taxation expert, so you might want to get some advice from HMRC on this one, but you can class something as a hobby, rather than a profession, as long as you're not earning more than a certain amount every year, and not be taxed on it (although it might be taken into account if you end up being made redundant and having to claim JSA, so be careful with that one).

Is your company offering a reasonable redundancy package?

Russ.

Oh, man...that stinks. But I tend to see the world through rose-colored glasses...perhaps this means that you are meant to make your living (and a good one, at that!) through doing what you love.

I truly hope that your photography business takes off running, and that you make more money doing so than your current job. I've seen your photos and you've definitely got what it takes. Best of luck to you!!!

I've been an unemployed bum since May 1. The downside is that I'm getting used to not working. The job hunting is horrible here in the Colonies.

Good luck on your job search.

Oh no, lets hope it won't happen!
My job is also unsecure at the moment, need to wait until middle of August to determine how likely it is that I will be made redundant
Scary times.
