Default Qualifications.

Hi all

I am looking at getting a formal qualification in Photography - probably a BA.

There is nowhere local enough to me that offers what I am looking for so I am looking online for courses.

What I would like is peoples opinions on the numerous online degree programs for photography. How good are they, how practical are they, what format do they use etc.

Many thanks

Shana

What you really need is a full-time tertiary course,at a local polytechnic, or university. I wouldn't trust a degree course online. Ken

Would definitely prefer that option but unfortunately there isn't one near me. Lots of {expensive} short courses/workshops etc but nothing substantial.

You might also consider that any kind of formal training probably won't qualify you to the majority of your client base. The quality of your shots will influence them more than your degree. I'd suggest just investing the money and time in going out and shooting, whilst gleaning what lessons / techniques you need from online communities and using that approach.

If you have a degree/certification, this guarantees quality images to your clients-without that they are taking a chance on your ability-you may show them quality shots that have been selected from a whole gamut-where a degree/diploma/certificate guarantees that you consistently make quality images. Also, If you ever want to teach photography, they are mandatory. Ken

My thoughts exactly Ken, although I do understand where you are coming from Marc and I would definitely combine both as learning sources. I have not been here for long but I have learned so much already.

So back to my original quest - does anyone have any experience of online degree/certification courses. There are a lot out there to choose from.
