You could always re-approach her with a proposal. A prominent photo credit on any website or printed material in lieu of payment in cash. The team probably doesn't have a lot of spare cash to throw about, but you could always use it as an opportunity to get a deal to be 'officially' sanctioned to photograph the games and sell photos to the team members and/or proud parents, etc.

Give it a try... They can only say no.

If you had considered continuing this line of work, maybe be careful starting really low - you will give poeple unrealistic expectations for when you do the next shoot... "oh, but I thought you only charged $30?"...I know we can't charge commercial prices to start, or, is our work as good and should we charge commercial prices?.. "getting your name out there v's working for nothing"... i'm currently having the same issues... grrr

I have my first shoot on Saturday and am more than willing to do it for free, I'm more interested in the feedback from the customer and the experience of the situation.

The Lady involved as also booked me for a large charity event in December again for free, but for this i am asking that my name is associated with the photos and my name is placed on the web site.

Money, the root of all evil

Rob.

I'm a psych person, so charging low for me isn't a big deal. This isn't going to be my career, and if it is they can get the Alma Matter Discount.

So, any tips on the best way to approach this new problem that I've created? There isn't another home game until the 19th, and that's the only face to face interaction I've had.

I don't think there is any harm in calling her up and telling her you have decided to donate the pictures to them as long as you get credit for them. Money probably is an issue for them and they may have their budget already spoken for by other events. It can't hurt to have your work published. It won't hurt to try anyways

At this point, I don't even worry about credit anymore. The atheltic department and makers of the website have their ways pretty set in stone so the best I think I can hope for is the team to decide later that I deserve something.

But, with that in mind go check out this story and this story. Those pictures are both mine and just seeing them is a big ego boost. The webiste has been using pictures with uniforms they don't even have anymore, had to skip out on using pictures of the freshmen because they didn't have anything, and even repeated some pictures. Hopefully that won't happen anymore.

Yep, this is a common pit fall, you should charge your full rate, or nothing at all and 'donate' it. Nothing in between,

I suggest you tell them that they can have them for free if you get your name on them. Don't get the greed for money when free publicity will work better in the long run.
