Some you may remember that I had a photo shoot about a month ago with some group out of Wyoming who wanted me to do thier western wedding wear apparel.
Well i did and now they are coming back and asking me to send the orginals so they are all uniform. ha ha. The orginals are all the same as the 'edited" ones. Save the edited ones are just a bit more clear and the background colors are muted down. #1, these people asked for all this intense background stuff and wanted each photo to be unique. I expressed my concerns to them regarding this as since this was all supposed to be for a "catalog and web site" that they were not going to want elaborate backgrounds and the focus should ALL be on the wedding wear. They should be considering a more formal background that wont compete with the models and thier clothes. They said no no, this is what we want. Well, who am I to argue with the customer? I said my piece and they didnt want it. I am clueless as to what to do now. They havent asked for thier money back and nor would I give it to them. Guess its good expierience for next time.

I know, they were all over them when they got the proofs and ranted and raved how much they loved them all and thanked me profusely.
Sent them an email last night asking what they wanted me to do and havent heard back. Perhaps thats a good thing

Your contract doesnt entail them to the originals: charge an arm and a leg for them, or dont give them up at all.

Hmmm… I don’t fully understand..
So they want the unedited versions, and aren’t happy with the edits because the background isnt dominant enough? I’m actually writing up my final draft of my first commercial contract to.. so any tips of experiences you’ve had would be appreciated. i'm sending it out in 2 days with the invoice.. In my contract I’ve stated I’m not refunding unless for technical reasons they are not fit for purpose.. Any “I don’t like” argumants is “too bad, you’ve seen my style in my portfolio so go jump ……”

When they first asked for the photo shoot, they wanted rustic. So I suggested perhaps by an old barn or old homestead. They said no, that was too rustic. Then I thought a wheat field as I thought that would be simple and yet romantic for wedding wear. No that wasnt western enough. Then they decided they wanted mountains in the background with a sunset. Against my better judgement I agreed to do it (after expressing why they shouldnt)
Now they feel the backgrounds are too strong. Especially the ones with the night skies. Oh yea, did I mention they were an hour and a half late? The unedited versions are the same as the edited ones except for I tried to tone down the backgrounds a bit and of course cropped down the images so there would be less landscape around the models.

Hey, you told them what you thought. They said they wanted it anyway. Guess they should have listened to the photographer on that one.

Make sure in your contract you have it stated a start and finish time and what your rates are if you go over that time period. It should also state the time clock starts ticking from the time it states on your contract.
These people were a bit put off when they had to pay me for an hour and a half they werent there but they signed the contract and I was sitting there with bells and whistles on happily waiting for them!
