Smile Flickr pro account - advantages and disadvantages

I am thinking about buying a Flickr pro account. I want to know what the advantages are and also the disadvantages are of a pro account.

When i buy the account, will it be a year from the date i purchase it, or is it on a certain date?

I would love to hear your opinion on this.

Are there referrals, if so what do you get if i use your referral, what do i get as well?

I am really leaning on getting a Pro account, but before i do i want your HONEST opinions.

Thanks

The advantages are pretty well spelled out in their FAQ:

Quote:
When you upgrade to a Pro account for just US$24.95 a year (or R$45.90 if you’re in Brazil ) you get all this:

* Unlimited photo uploads (20MB per photo)
* Unlimited video uploads (90 seconds max, 500MB per video)
* The ability to show HD Video
* Unlimited storage
* Unlimited bandwidth
* Archiving of high-resolution original images
* The ability to replace a photo
* Post any of your photos or videos in up to 60 group pools
* Ad-free browsing and sharing
* View count and referrer statistics

Compare that to what you get with a Free Account:

* 100 MB monthly photo upload limit (10MB per photo)
* 2 video uploads each month (90 seconds max, 150MB per video)
* Photostream views limited to the 200 most recent images
* Post any of your photos in up to 10 group pools
* Only smaller (resized) images accessible (though the originals are saved in case you upgrade later)
The disadvantage is $24.95 (US) per year. That's a year from when you purchase it, not from some other date.

To me, a remote backup of my photos that I can access from anywhere, along with the provision of copies of my images at a range of different sizes, are the main reasons I have a Pro account - definitely worth c. $2 a month.

As was already pointed out, there are advantages to Flickr. I like it because it's easy to use and it's easy to upload full size. If there were a problem with my computer and I wanted to get the full sizes back, they are also partnered with a company that will let you purchase DVD's of your full size shots that you've uploaded.

It's from the date that you purchase it.

Nope, there are no referrals. Of course, given that it's unlimited storage there's not a whole lot they could offer. And the price is really pretty good too, so I'm not surprised they don't offer any sort of price incentive.

Free month? That would be nice.

waffles, Sure it'd be nice, but somehow I doubt they're going to offer it They do occasionally offer bonus months for buying gifts subscriptions that you can gift yourself.

Candleman, it's my understanding from reading in their help forums that the Original size has nothing done to it by Flickr. This is a quote from Kevin, one of the Flickr staff:
Quote:
Once the files are on the server after being uploaded, nothing more is done to them by Flickr (unless you replace them or edit them in Picnik). But from the Flickr end of things, that's it- they are not altered.
