Default NO! Anything but my camera! :*(

So, I'm completely devastated. My baby is broken. I was showing one of my Managers at work a picture on my camera. When he went to hand it back to me, it fell, and hit the floor. Which is concrete. Now it won't turn on. Now I'm debating whether or not I want to borrow the credit built up by paying my car payment on time. If I do that though, it would extend the amount of time it would take to pay off my car. Or, if I want to try and have my camera fixed. I don't know what to do. If I get it fixed, it'd probably be cheaper than buying a new one, considering it's just a point and shoot. But, if I get a new one, I can get my dream camera. Well, at least my dream camera right now, which is a Nikon D60, and maybe a new tripod. Besy Buy has thier D60's on sale right now for $550.00. If I do that, I want something brand new, and I want it before the 4th because I want to try some shots of fireworks. GAH! I don't know what to do.

If you were me, what would you do? I've got enough built up to get the D60, but that extends my car being paid off. Or would you just try to see if you could fix the cheaper camera for now?

What I really would love to do is get the D60, and take the penalty. I'm nothing without a camera. :*( A photographer isnt a photographer without a camera.

I know how you feel, my D80 broke over a month ago and I just got my replacement but was worth the wait in the end. I would say go for the D60 now if it won't stress you financially. Then you will have your new baby and a whole new learning experience! Plus I doubt you will get the other repaired before the fourth even if you wanted. GO for it!!!

They know you much better than any of us I'm sure, but like I said if it won't stress you financially why not??? Photography may not be as important to them as it is to you and all of us.

It isnt. Where as photography is my religion, World of Warcraft is theirs. They would be lost without their precious online game, and I'm lost without my camera. I've gotta talk to my Mom still. The loan is co-signed with my step-dad. I wanna see what Mom thinks, and see if it's ok with my step-dad that I do that, if I choose to.

I really don't think borrowing against a car loan to buy a camera is a good idea. Did your manager drop it? Why isn't he paying for it?

The other consideration is that the D60 is rumored to be discontinued and replaced by the D4000 that is anticipated to be announced at the end of July. (Along with the D300s upgrade for the D300...)

Follow your dream!
Get yourself a new D60 and take the firework pictures.
Enjoy yourself! Life is too short...and there are so many pictures yet to be taken.

Just grab your best credit card and split the payment over a period of 12 month or so.
You will hardly feel the monthly payment in your pocket. If you smoke, for example, you can quit and even save a buck or two.

You will not regret it!

I agree! Why is he not offering to at least help pay for it? Also don't they have insurance for cases like that? I would talk to him first.

I never hand any equipment to anyone. I always hold onto the strap. When it comes to photographic gear...everyone has hands of stone. I trust no one, except another professional photographer, but then I'll still hold onto the strap. the same goes true with setting your camera down and letting the strap hang off the side of the table or whatever it's laying on, never let your straps off of anything except around your neck or shoulder.
