Red face Beginner!

Hi All

I was wondering whether there is a group for complete beginners to join on here to get some tips on how to get started?

I am going to pick up my first ever DSLR camera tomorrow, I'm so excited. Its a Nikon D60 and I can't wait to get practising

All the groups on here look great but I was wondering whether there were any groups/forums specifically geared towards complete novices!?!?!

Looking forward to hearing back from you all.

Welcome to DPS. First be assured this is the most friendly site. We consist of seasoned pros, and rank amateurs (like me) There is plenty to learn, but do not be afraid of posting. We have all made that first post! And have fun with the new camera! Douglas

I consider myself a beginner and have felt nothing but encouragement from posting on here. It's addictive! The weekly assignment makes you think about taking shots you would normally not think about. And the added bonus is that you get to share images from around the world.

Thanks guys! I'm no stranger to the world of internet forums So I was really pleased to see that there was something like DPS

Looking forward to getting stuck in and 'meeting' some fellow photography enthusiasts

I have a normal SLR camera which I have been using for a while but I find it frustrating TBH and can't wait to look at my pictures immediately and delete if they're rubbish!!!!

I found some great links on here last night, a great thread with tips for beginners & the weekly assigments....I sense this is going to be the start of a new addiction.....

Don't delete the photos on the camera, wait until you've downloaded them to the computer and viewed them on a decent sized screen before deciding if they're rubbish or not.

And above all, enjoy your camera, take hundreds of photos using all the different settings, and don't be scared to come and ask questions... the only silly question is the one you think you know the answer to, but don't!

THanks
I already have a question, what are the MASP options on the dial on my camera? I have tried them but I don't know what they stand for!

I will be reading the manual tonight for bedtime reading but just thought I'd ask

The MASP settings you mention are 4 settings:
M -Manual - You set everything, aperture, shutter, etc
A - Aperture Priority
S - Shutter Priority
P - (can't remember...but sort of automatic). Since I am a RANK beginner, that is all I can tell you, but thought I would offer some assistance.

"P" is "Programable" ..i never use it.. others love it. you just need to experiment.

yup.. M, A, S give the most control. thats what you want as a photographer
"M" is for Magic
"A" is for Awesome

a great place to start is reading the DPS Tips for Beginners.
that in conjunction with your camera manual you're away laughing.

you'll need to start at the top with the "exposure triangle".. as thats the bread and butter of all things photographic.
