Default Jumping OFF the Mac Bandwagon

Not a happy camper today. My 3 month old 17' MacBook Pro has to go in for repair. I went to wake it up earlier and the screen looked like someone put a huge blue filter on it and there are a ton of pixels that are out of whack.

Been on the phone with Apple for an hour and gee, I am one of the very rare, very atypical customers who got a machine that broke!

Sigh, yes I know it's under warranty, yes, they will fix it but I could have bought a PC laptop and still had enough money left over for a week away for what I paid for this machine.

Anyway, there is my whine and my rant for the day.

Sounds like you got a lemon -- that sucks. On the upside, Apple's warranty service is basically the best anywhere. Good luck and don't give up yet...

I've seen something like that before on a laptop and the culprit was a bad ribbon cable that connects the screen to the computer. It's an easy fix but it's a shame it happened.

An hour on the phone just to have them tell you to bring it in... That doesn't sound like splendid customer service if you ask me...

A phone call at six AM on a Saturday morning to say that they still had no answer ... that was from Microsoft to us. I was in the market for a new machine, and after that injury+insult from Microsoft I owned a Mac by noon of that same day.

Ya' know ... ? They're more similar than different under the hood. It's mostly the user interface that distinguishes them. And the price. I recognize on my Mac that I have a much more intuitive user interface, and that's worth money to a non-geek who needs a sophisticated computer. But, then, I'm a geek and I don't need intuitive. So when this machine needs to get replaced, I'll equally consider a PC and a Mac.

In there defense .... the person I spoke to was polite, did not speak with such a thick accent I could not understand what they were saying (I have hearing loss and that can be a huge problem for me) and he was trying to help me download possible fixes, was walking thru the try this and thats with me. The level of customer service was hands down far superior to anything I have ever encountered with HP or Microsoft.

I am just ugly that my less then 3 month old laptop has a problem and has to go in for service. Had it been a quick and easy fix yesterday I would be fine.
