My girlfriend is an intern at the Tracy Press. I went and visited her one day at work. They asked me to shoot a local circus the next day, so I agreed.

Just shows the ol' statement "it's not what you know; it's who you know" is still true.

You got some really nice shots there! I'm always amazed when seeing people manipulate their bodies like that last one is all twisted up.

So the real question here is did you get paid per photo or per assignment and not just byline credit?

It's a news paper... you think they're paying people these days? haha My girlfriend is an unpaid intern. They have a total staff of like 10-15. They used to have probably 50-75+ people. They have 2 paid reporters, both of which are under the age of 25. The photo editor is the ONLY photographer.

They used to be a daily paper. Now they're a biweekly paper. Times are almost impossible for newspapers these days.

Well yes, actually, I think they do pay people 'these days'.

They should be paying you. As for credit - if all you're getting is credit, you need more credit than the little 'courtesy of -' at the bottom of the byline.

It's not impossible for newspapers, I'd say. For locals, maybe. But most? Not really.

Next time, don't forget the $$ - unless it puts your girlfriend in an uncomfortable position.

Not when they've laid off 75% of their staff in the last 6 months. Not when they switched from daily to biweekly 2 months prior due to no money.

I did it for fun. I won't be shooting anything for them again. It's no big deal.

I didn't see any photo credit on the newspaper website?

I live in a small town with only 10,000 residents and we have a running newspaper that just dropped mondays! Their staff is still fully payed.

People must love what they do to work for free at that Newspaper.
