Default Been quiet a while

I am still hanging around! Its been a little while since I have had the camera out much though. As it has warmed up, I have sank into my other passion: fishing!

However, stay tuned! I shot about 400 shots at my brother-in-law's wedding recently, and I have just started to process them. I was not "the" wedding photographer, they had hired someone. However, I would not be surprised if they like my stuff more . The woman they hired shot the whole day with one camera using one lens, and the on-camera flash. It was something in the digital rebel line, and the lens was not L quality. She left the flash on during the ceremony, as well as the focus beep. And she left the reception before her contracted time was up (and before the dances and toasts) because her babysitter bailed on her. So, I don't think she was truly a pro! I sure was the lifesaver when it came to the last parts of the reception as I was the only person there remotely close to a photographer.

Once I get done picking the keepers out of the bunch and touching them up, I will post a few - and a link to the rest - in this thread.

Another reason to stay tuned: I am flying out to Alaska for two weeks starting tomorrow. My Canon 100-400mm L lens arrived from lensrentals yesterday, and I plan on returning with some fantastic landscapes and wildlife shots, as well as some fresh caught halibut, salmon, and trout! Again, I will post them here!

Ok, back and up to my neck in photo processing from the trip and the wedding. I finished the wedding batch, and invite anyone to come and check them out. I was not the paid photographer here, as I said. I focused on the decor and just candid shots. If you view the photos in the set and not in my photostream, they are in chronological order. Rehearsal - Wedding - Reception.

Set: Dylan and Julia's Rehearsal, Wedding, and Reception - a set on Flickr

A few I liked:

Stained glass: IMG_1814-1

Rehearsal Dinner: IMG_1898-1

Ring bearer: IMG_1952

Bride getting ready (shot through cracked doorway) : IMG_1956

Wow did I learn a thing or two about shooting weddings. At first, I felt like saying that f/4 was not fast enough, which is probably accurate. However, I was already working with a pretty thin focal plane. I had to scrap a lot of otherwise good images because not enough of the frame was in focus. It would be even harder at f/2.8 or whatnot. People are hard to shoot! On the other hand, it was a lot of fun.

Very cool that you had this opportunity and was not the official paid photographer, but could relax a bit and not have the stress of "I can't miss anything!" Those pictures look great! Thanks for sharing them
