I can honestly say - NEVER. I will never know everything, I will always have someone to learn from or something new to try

I wish I had a nickel for every shot I've blown in my forty years behind a camera If I'd put that 5 cents in a bank account, I'd be rich But we all learn by our behind the camera mistakes. Photography is an ever learning process.

I have more confidence in my abilities and basic knowhow but I know there is still much to learn. I will forever be a student. I thrive on learning more from the photography to the editing. I will always thirst for more. I am my own worst critic and I think I always will be. I can find something in every shot I take that can be improved on, does that mean it was a bad shot, NO. Just always have room for improvement. So yes "I get it" but may never be to where "I've got it."

After only having a camera for 4 months I don't think I really have 'it' yet

I have taken a few shots that I am really happy with, but I would say 90% of the time the end result is not what I had pictured in my head to start with. Usually I end up returning home with something completely different than what I went out to shoot

However I do think that the gap is closing all the time between what I want and what I actually get

I am glad you actually posted this topic, makes me feels "I am not alone" after all. When I do not needs to spend any time on post processing the shots then that make we felt I "got it". There are times if you are rushing for photo shots and likely come back with nothing of use. But, I do not normally "got it" until someone told me says "great", "like", "Love it" when looking at my work. Keep shooting and pratice. Cheers

I've been only been taking photos with a purpose for about three months, so I'm confident when I say I don't have it. While I'm sure I can become comfortable with the technical components of photography, lighting, aperture, shutter seed, focus, and possibly also with some of the mechanical elements of composition and color, I wonder if I I'll ever become fluent with the creative, artistic parts of photography.

I'm a left-brain guy — I do software QA for a living — so my right-brain is retarded and un(der)developed. It's rare that I can envision a shot I want to make and even rarer when I successfully translate that mental image to an actual photograph. People go to art or photography school all the time, but I wonder if those people already have a talent that I might not possess, that sort of artistic imagination can be taught or trained or developed at all.

I'll feel like I've made progress when I can take image I see in front of me and produce a photograph that accurately captures what I see.

Don't worry about it.........left hand side, right hand side, you still have to train your eye to eye and that just takes many hour behind a camera. Just go out and have fun

Default Got it? Yeah, like holding water in your hands...

The thing about the "Gotcha" moment is that it is fleeting. There is always something else to "Get".

Shooting weddings, there were those shots that were "must have", I would get those down to where I could do them in my sleep. But, not a single wedding ever went by were I was not trying to get more.

Good shooting

WOW, and I thought I was the only one that felt that way. I'll go out and take shots and come home and look at them and think they are all total crap, and then the next day I'll take a perfect shot. Not sure why this happens, but glad it is not just me.

Interesting post... I 'm thinking each individual picture you take is going to be (or not) an "I've got it" moment. I've taken some really bad ones (expect I'll continue to do so) and also a couple of good ones. Its the process of "getting there" I enjoy. the end result is the bonus
