Smile Need Help

I didnt want to go to a store and ask there because I figured here I would get the honest truth.
I need you to buy a camera that can take a picture of a label on a wine bottle - being that the bottles are curved. The only thing I want is a picture of the front label and the back label. Can you recommend to me a camera that will do this (or camera and extra lens) the best way as the label cannot be removed from the bottle and I need the highest resolution possible.

Thanks for your help!!!

I would suggest you go with a Canon DSLR Rebel or better with a 60mm macro lens. Bang for the buck and learning curve to get what you are looking for, I think this is your best bet. If you need really top quality shots you may want to consider getting a light box approximate cost around $70 USD.

You might also want to figure out what software to use to correct the distortion caused by the curve of the bottles (assuming you want them to appear flat).

Peel the label off carefully?

If you can take them off, then soaking is the way to go... but the original post does say the label can't be removed.

Um, why do you just need the label?

Trader Thanks I'll take your advice and pick up today.
And Wulf I have Photoshop CS4 which effect would you use to have label appear flat?
Would it be a specific plug-in?

No idea - I use the Gimp and, if faced with a similar problem, would probably use a quick web search to help figure things out.

If you take the photo head on you wont see the curve but you will have distortion/compression on the sides and posibly som hilights depending on the direction of your light. I would recommend taking two or three pictures, one from the front and two from the side then stich them together with photoshop.

You may want to try a handheld image scanner rather than camera for this purpose.
