Default Micro Lens?

I am wanting to do some micro photography but don't have a micro lens. My camera is the Nikon D90 and I am short on funds...as I think most people are these days. I am the only on in my house that is working at the moment and I am working 24hrs of OT a payperiod just to make ends meet. Are there any suggestions as to how I could get a CHEAP micro lens??

Thanks,
Melissa

I think you mean a macro lens. You could see if you can find a cheap prime lens that has the same thread diameter on the front as another lens you got. If you mount the prime front-to-front on your other lens using a reverser (reversal?) ring you should be able to shoot macro photos. Or you could look into extention tubes and/or screw-on macro filters.

Nikon call their macro lenses "Micro-Nikkor."

Some cheaper alternatives will include: I do not indorse any of these ebay sellers. I'm just including these as example of what each item looks like and is commonly called. Just as a refferce to help in your research of cheaper macro alternatives.

As Sybren mention a reversing coupler. This will alow you to mount a reversed lens in front of your current lens. This set up is akward. As you have 2 lenses with focus ring. It's best to manual focus. Also it adds wieght to your lens which is more stress on you autofocus motor. example... http://tinyurl.com/kwxsrf

A reversing ring. which will allow you to mount a reversed lens directly on the camera. You will only be able to focus on very close up objects.
example... http://tinyurl.com/l7kery

Extention tubes. These will mount between the lens and the camera. you can increase the distance by adding more rings.
example... http://tinyurl.com/lw7dvz

A bellows. This mounts between the lens and camera also, but allows you to vary the distance by turning a knob.
example... http://tinyurl.com/kukjp8

There the macro tele converter. It's basically a 2x teleconverter which allows for closer focusing. The image quality is iffy with the cheaper ones. Nikon made some to use with thier micro(1:2) lenses to make them a true 1:1 macro lense they were of good quality.
Example... http://tinyurl.com/n85o6o

Then there's the close up converter lenses and the close up filters. These are like screwing a magnifying glass in front of you lens.
example... http://tinyurl.com/n6a649
example... http://tinyurl.com/nypdsx This is probally the worst quality route to go.
