I have some good news that I wanted to share. Last week I took some prints to a local framing shop to have framed. The images were a couple that I had taken last Autumn and one of last year's total lunar eclipse. All three were printed on Kodak Metallic Paper by Mpix.com.
When I walked into the shop I was surprised that it seemed to be more of a gallery than just a framing shop. The owner had framed pictures, mainly prints of painting, throughout the front of the shop. Well, we worked out the details for getting my prints framed and we talked a bit. He seemed to really like the metallic paper and how it brought out the colors and gave the prints an almost 3D effect. Somehow during this I mentioned that I was trying to figure out how to make some money from my photography. The owner then asked if I had considered selling any via a gallery and I mentioned that I didn't know where to start for that. His response was, "Talk to me." So we did. I promised that I would bring some more photographs for him to look through when I came to pick my finished framed prints up the next week. So, this week I have been organizing my photographs better in Lightroom. I now have a set of "portfolio" collections with what I think are the best of the best of my images. I then narrowed those down even more to about twenty which I printed out on my printer at home and placed into a slip-sleeved folio. It isn't a proper "art portfolio". However, he seemed fairly casual thus I wasn't as concerned about having a true portfolio quality book for him. Well, today was the time for my prints to be ready. There was a painter getting some of her work framed when I entered the shop. After they had finished, he got my framed prints. I have to same they are gorgeous framed. Double matted, non-glare glass. Beautiful. Then I showed him the other photographs. He liked quite a few of them. We talked a bit more. Finally, he ordered 8x12 prints on metallic paper of three particular photographs. One of them was one of the photographs I had gotten framed. Another was taken from a local university. The third was of a local town and it's downtown wall fall. Hmm, actually that means he ordered two waterfall photographs and the other is on a lake. Anyway, it is a small order to be sure as it is a test so to speak. However, I'm still quite happy about it. Just thought I would share.
