Default Am I Wrong?????

So my husband wanted me to make a CD of some pictures I took in Hawaii so he could show his co-workers. I put about 200 or so on a CD for him. I kindly asked him to not print out or copy any of the photos for anyone. He started laughly hysterically and asked "what, do you have the copyright on these?" Well, as a matter of fact...... YES I DO, THEY ARE MINE!!!! Now, I am not a violent person, but I seriously wanted to smash his face into the bathroom door I was really offended by his reaction. I tried to explain to him they were for "show and tell" only and if someone wanted a copy I should be asked. Am I wrong here? His whole reaction kinda hurt my feelings.

I am not by any means a professional, but I do love photography and I do take it seriously. I don't know, maybe I am too sensitive about this. I just had to vent

Thanks for listening.

Frying pan + head.

Then tell him he's sleeping on the couch.

I am going to guess that your husband is like so many other people that don't realize images are the property of the photographer. He probably thought you would be happy if someone wanted a copy of one of your shots. I don't think he was dissing you or your ability, just being a tad insensitive as husbands can be sometimes . Just slowly educate him on how you feel about your images: You have moved away from "snapshots" and are now moving into photography as an art form, you are proud of your pictures and want to know if others are interested. After all, it could become a money making business and then he would be looking at it from a different viewpoint.

I'm with Sarah here.

I'm not married (thank God) but you're a photographer and you're fully within your right to enforce copyright on your photos!

I see this stuff all the time. It really has nothing to do with the photos themselves, but rather she wants him to respect her work and listen to her wishes. By laughing at her, he's basically saying, "Your effort and talent aren't worth crap, and by extention you aren't worth crap"

How close am I? Be honest.

Possibly a little too harsh. In fact MUCH too harsh.

It's more likely that someone who isn't a photographer short of snapping shots of their mates with a P&S simply doesnt understand the concept that photographers have full copyright to their work whereas most snappers will happily share photos with their mates

You think so, huh? That may not have been what he meant by it, but I damn well promise you that's how she understood it from her husband.

Technically the images are yours... but I think this is more of an issue to work out with him, and not ask about on DPS...
