I want to shoot a wedding (they are having TWO due to different religions, and only getting a photographer for the first, so I'd like to have a go at the second - not officially, but there won't be a pro to annoy so thought it could be good practice). So I think I will hire a fast telephoto and a fast wide-angle - looking at http://www.lensesforhire.co.uk/nikon...if-ed-55-p.asp for the wide angle, is that going too wide?

Mostly. You can get some very good "scene" shots with it and unusual types of portraits/ shots that can be very good and unique. But it wouldn't be a first choice.

I've used my 16-35mm and 70-200mm.

So it would only really be good for a couple of shots then? I might leave it as it's quite a lot to hire and then just not use. It does look fun though - perhaps better for another time
![]() Would I be better off with something like a17-35 f2.8?

I'd recommend something like a 28-80 f/2.8 as a "first choice". Personally if I were to shoot a wedding I'd want 2 bodies (w/ flash, bracket, diffuser/bounce). One would have my 28-70 f/2.8 and the other would have my 80-200 f/2.8. Not having two bodies, I'd plan on having the 28-70 mounted most of the time and the other along. Situationally you might find the longer lens more useful.
But note, I don't do weddings....

Thanks Jim, I was hoping you wouldn't notice my thread LOL
I am sure this has all be asked 100 times! There is no expectation so thought it would be fun. Yes, I'm planning on begging/borrowing/stealing a second body so I don't have to change lenses. Thank you!

Actually I'm not finished!
I'm all confuzzled about frames - I'm on the DX, are there any fast wide angles specifically for DX so I don't waste frame space?

Don't worry about it...you won't see any difference.

Thanks, was hoping to save some money and weight, but I don't think you can get fast wide angle DX anyway.
I think I will go with the 17-55 f/2.8 and the 70-200 f/2.8. Can't wait to have a play with these two!
