Default I have given up my DSLR..

Well, almost.
I have been SO PLEASED with my Canon G10 and the images I can get that it is usually the camera I pick up. I absolutely LOVE the convenience of it's smaller size/weight. I love being able to have it along when doing wildlife photography because I can leave the big lens mounted on the D300 and get the "wider shot" with the G10 easily and quickly.

I have come up with a strap/clip arrangement which makes carry/versatility even better than any camera I've ever owned.

There ARE times where the DOF is an issue, or the light isn't good enough to stay at ISO200 or below, but it's seldom.

I feel like I need to get over this...my D300 is being neglected.

Maybe I'll try an experiment and carry both the G10 and my D300 with an 18-200 on it (or my 28-70 f/2.8 might be better) and take the "same shots" on several trips just to see what difference it really could make.

No, I'm not going to be selling my D300; there are just some things it can do the G10 can't. But I might have to trade it for a D3/D700 because there is a lot the D300 just doesn't do THAT MUCH better.

I know, sacralege...flame on.

I'd actually recommend trading it in for a D700, especially if you've got any D300 accessories as they'll (90%) work with the D700.

And that gives you ISO range up to the stratosphere!

Cool. Good job actually caring about the things that matter.

(I mean that seriously -- convenience is highly important to me as well, among other things.)

Glad to hear you love the G10. I just bought one but haven't really tested it yet.

I choose quantity over quality. I just pick up a Panasonic TZ7/SZ3 for its 12x zoom and 720P AVCHD video. With this gem, I'm ready to turn pro and become a videographer as well.

About D3/D700, I prefer the D3 to D700 because I hate the MB-D10 battery grip and I like many D3 features.

The only D300 accessory I have is a battery grip. The D3's is integral. The only negative for me is loosing the 1.5 factor of the smaller sensor. The bonus is the better low light/ high ISO performance...But then again, I do have a couple of crop sensor lenses I'd have to replace at great cost...

I think, for now, I'll just be happy....

It is amazing to me the emphasis placed on the ability to get a shallow depth of field, and how seldom it is actually a factor in getting the shot..... And how little emphasis is placed on having a GOOD camera with you when an opportunity arises, and the ease of accomplishing that.

IMO the main negatives are inability to get shallow depth of field in camera other than "macro".

Poor low light performance, but IMO it's fine thru ISO200 and usable at 400 with some post work. I generally work outdoors with decent light.

And limited focal range, but 80% of my pics (other than wildlife) are in the 30-80mm range which is easily accommodated by the G10.

I think you have to know "your style" and "what works for you" to find the best solution.....For me, the G10 is great and the perfect walkabout camera when it's not all about the photography (and sometimes when it is).

One great thing about the P&S size/impression of the G10 is it doesn't generate the same amount of attention as a D300 with a 28-70mm f/2.8 and battery grip attached.

Ouch, never saw that one coming (but I should have!)...

The only thing that sucks, is I really have been neglecting my D300 for much of my photography......A lot of what I do is go for wanders with a camera and look for things that interest me..... The G10 fits this better.

It can't really completely replace my DSLR.....But it does make me question the amount of money I have invested in it... I need to re-fall-in-love with my DSLR!
