Default Facebook and now Tagged

Yikes! Will the social networks never end. I did start a FaceBook page because I had a lot of local friends (people I really know face-2-face) inviting me as a friend.

Now I get an email from a Jack Nash (I'm hoping he's a DPS member) to view his photos on Tagged. Problem is I have to open an account. And I don't even know what "Tagged" is.

I'm really getting tired of being Twitted, Faced, and whatever else. I really gets to be too much. So besides DPS and FaceBook, I'll just opt out of these other requests.

It's really getting annoying. Especially when you get an invitation from someone that you can't really figure out what the connection is.

MAKE IT STOP! PLEASE!

Tagged sounds like spam to me. Personally, if I don't get an introduction when someone contacts me via Email, the message goes in the trash without a second thought.

You need to be so careful these days - it's a shame that such a good vehicle as the internet is abused to the extent it is.

I know what you mean Rusty. I started a facebook so a few of us from work could keep in touch with a friend that retired and moved away and now I get requests all the time. It's a little too much, being connected all the time. I've gotten to where I dont feel bad if I dont reply, accept, call back. Hang in there. :-)

See this recent article about Tagged. It's terms of service allow it to access your email address book and send out invites to all the addresses it finds. I did try to sign up a couple of times in the past when I got an invitation from people I knew but never made it past the sign up page - the fact I was using spamgourmet.com (a free service that lets you create disposable email addresses) probably threw it off, for which I'm glad!

AMEN. I'm a computer consultant and I am on technology overload. I too recently caved in to peer pressure and got a Facebook account. The one good thing from that is I now have info on my 30th HS renuion without having to join "spam-my"classmates . com.

Heck, I don't even have a BlkBry or iPhone. I don't want to receive email while I'm in the field...I'm stressed enough with the voicemails stacking up while I'm onsite. If you need to talk to me call me. Email is OK, but don't expect a fast reply. I can't be spending all day checking different communication boxes. I have pictures to take.

Whew! I feel better now that is off my chest.

I've been wondering how people have the time for all the Facebooking and Twittering that seems to occur. My blog takes enough time already. How would I have time to read DPS if I started using all of those other services.

For me, the most valuable thing about both services is that I know lots of people who use them. As well as sometimes allowing me to follow my curiousity about what people have been up to, both have their uses as a way of getting in touch with people and, for various reasons, seem to work better than email for that purpose.

WithTwitter, I suspect that is the discipline of limiting your messages to 140 characters. With Facebook, it may be the chance to check out the sender's profile before or after sending a reply.

Therefore (along with my blog and one or two other things), I'm happy to make time for them.

wulf: I read that same article shortly after I first posted this thread. So I'm not going there, obviously.

I too am a IT professional (my day job that helps pay for my very expensive photography and music hobbies), so I do exercise a lot of caution. In fact, I rejected invitations to FaceBook for about 6 months before I realized that I had a lot of friends who were there. At least they are people I really know.

But I'm getting in the habit of ignoring anyone I don't know even if they have common friends on FaceBook. I'm not trying to build a FB list of friends just for bragging rights. It's not become a good way to show off my photos as well as let people know when my band is playing. So there is some value.

I'm just tired of an plethora of social networks out there that I get annoying emails to join. Enough is enough.

I do not Twitter, I do not have a MySpace page or a Facebook account. I will not get any one of these either. I don't have the time for all of that.

When I got my cellular phone turned back on, I didn't get any text messaging options. If you want to contact me, call and talk to me.
