Default Camera Insurance

Hello, As I'm sure you are aware as you invest in nice lenses and a dslr you enjoy using, you realize that your equipment mounts up to a lot of money. So I thought maybe I should look at getting my photographic equipment Insured. I have looked online and a lot of insurance companies I've never heard of came up. I don't have home insurance to add a camera policy to as I don't own a house. So I want a stand alone insurance policy for my camera and kit. I've looked in the photo magazines and they don't seem to mention insurance at all. Can anyone suggest any insurance companies or a broker I can look at? Do you insure your equipment????

Default Don't waste your money

If you can't insure thru a homeowner or renters insurance with a "Normal" insurance company, then I would spend the money you will blow with these con companies on security.

Cost out the insurance against replacement value. By the time you pay their deductible, go through the vetting process and all......it is not worth it for any gear under $5000 grand.

Just a thought

I just bought a commercial policy from Travelers through National Press Photographers Association and Hays in D.C. Yearly premium is $650 on $13k of gear with $1,000 theft deductible, $500 for non-theft losses. It looks like you can get a specialty personal policy that would cover your gear.

Even if you dont own the place you live in, depending on what you own you should still have contents insurance. I gave a list of all my camera gear to my insurance company and added it to my current contents policy. I can take it anywhere in the world and its all covered.
It didnt cost me much extra to add it on.

You should have renters insurance then, and a "rider" add on shouldn't be too much.
I pay $80/yr for my rider...all of my gear is 100% covered for ANY loss and no deductible... That's for my camera gear AND my macbook pro and accessories...probably $6k worth of gear...it'll go up shortly though as I have gear to add!

I've got 2K in gear coverage, and it costs me $24 a year. I use my renters insurance, and just add on to it. I have my renters and car insurance through the same company,
