Default What's in a Name?

As you can see my log in name is Snaphappyscottie and you look at it and say that guy is from scotland, and you would be right on the money. A few weeks back i was on another site which i will not give any details to so as not to give them recognition but suffice to say that the name i used was astroscottie and still use this in astronomy forums. I was emailed by one of the admin guys who told me that my name was not politically correct. i could not believe it as i am Scottish and i also own a Scottish Terrier dog called Archie.
Not wanting to cause any offence to anyone i would ask if anyone thinks my name is wrong or offensive to Scottish people if so I would think about changing it for this Forum.

With thanks
Allan

Ha ha ha political correctness sucks the big one , my family heritage is Scottish although my only knowledge of this is a deep rustle in my veins when someone plays the bagpipes ha ha . (True though) . I could call myself Aussiebastard and I'm sure no one here would bat an eyelid , your user name certainly causes me no problem at all and I believe that unless you place a name on someone else that causes them distress or offence call yrself what you will . There are people here that have kids that browse the site with them and as long as its not offensive to our junior forum readers I imagine you'll have no trouble . Sounds as if said forum takes themselves a little too seriously or they enjoy the power of being able to tell you what to call yrself , stuff 'em !!

I have to say that the first thing I thought of was the little dogs. So I'm not seeing it as offensive. I'd say that

Is probably pretty accurate. I'm sure there are other exceptions, I just don't know exactly what they are.

Gee now you've got me thinking. Is my name offensive?

If anyone thinks it is, I'll change my name by Deed Poll.

Cheers,

I personally have never heard the term "Scottie" used in a derogatory manner. I have always thought of it as referring to the nation you claim as yours.

"Scottie" from Star Trek was Scottish and no one complained about him, eh?

When I saw Snaphappyscottie, I didn't even look at the location part of it. I just assumed that maybe your name was Scott!

All I have to say to the PC crowd is "just get over yourselves!"
